Limit Your Kids Game Time on your iPhone/iPad/Tablet - August 1st, 2012

As a parent it is easy to see how technology captures the attention of children for literally hours.  However the majority of child development experts agree that parents and caregivers need to limit the number of hours children play on the iPhone/iPad or Android tablets, watch television and/or use the computer.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that children spend somewhere between 1 to 2 hours daily watching television, on the computer, or playing games on the iPhone/iPad/Android.

Here are the rules-

1-Make sure your child has done all their homework/chores prior.  If this does not apply, make sure your child has time to play, whether its outside or with their toys.

2-Clearly tell your child before how long they can be on the device.

3-Use a timer.

4-When the game time or TV time is over, distract them with another activity- setting the table, reading a book, bath time, etc…and take no exceptions.

5-If its in the middle of a game, use the save feature.

6-Take the device away from the child and put it out of sight.

-It is also recommended that the computer or devices not be in a child’s room.
